Madagascar, (Beloha Region), 11 December 2018 In drought-hit southern Madagascar, funding from the European Union enables the World Food Programme and its partners to implement food- and cash-for-assets programmes that are designed to improve people’s access to food. WFP started the implementation of a three-year programme named AINA (2014-2016) in southern and south-eastern Madagascar. Under this programme — funded by the EU and implemented by five NGOs and three UN agencies — WFP specifically focuses on assets creation activities, local purchases to smallholder farmers and nutrition support to pregnant/nursing women and children under two to prevent acute malnutrition during the lean season. In the Photo: an AINA project site. The partnership between WFP, FAO and IFAD in the framework of “Integrated Actions in Nutrition and Food” (AINA) project was recognized as the winner of the 2016 United Nations Rome-based Agencies (RBA) Award of Excellence for country-level collaboration.
